Just wanted to drop a post in to admit that I’ve been somewhat unfaithful to Tumblr and have begun a relationship with Wordpress at www.kevinscottdavis.wordpress.com. This blog will likely stick around for awhile, though as I’ve said- in a way it’s already fulfilled it’s purpose. While I limited myself to mostly doing audio posts here, my other blog focuses on photos and writing of the non-musical nature, and is more reflective of my personal life and spiritual growth.
I do miss reading my Tumblr friends, and hope that anybody also on Wordpress come and join me, so that I have some blogs to follow over there.
The audio continues, however. Been enjoying my 1200 sq. ft of studio space in my little haven in the woods here in Northern California. The creative spirit couldn’t be stronger here, and many albums and collaborations are already on tap for this year. It’s going to be a good one.
I’ve got a pre-release of my whole album up and streaming at kevindavismusic.com. This track, called “Gold Country”, is available for free download there, too. About time, I’d say. I feel tired and proud. And happy. The album is titled ‘Mouna’, and is reflective of my year’s worth of work. Thanks for any listens/support!!

“this’ll make my move to portland a lot more exciting ;)”
Hey man I don’t even know how to properly reply to this on tumblr but thanks and you’ll love it here! If we trade emails I’ll introduce you to some super nice Portland music peeps if you’re interested.

Well, my album is finished and I don’t know what to do with my life.
This isn’t so true: on deck this month is a move back to the woods in northern California, building an alternative housing solution, learning to garden and create my own resources, and converting barn space into a studio. I’d like to find a way for my friends and acquaintances to hear this recording and will probably stick it in a dead drop (which is a flash drive cemented into a hole in a wall with data on it) in Portland before I leave.
As I make these transitions in life, I’m excited to get back to a little more thinking and writing (I’ll do it here!) and intend on making no music requiring more gear than I can hold in my two hands. :)

Two weeks and a couple days until mastering dates. Just sat down on the couch and listened to this thing through and I must say I’m pleased.
I think people think I’m crazy for having been mixing so long but I hope the result is worth the work. Definitely looking forward to shifting some gears after it’s done.
I sort of cannot wait to resume audio snippets.

This video leaves me stunned.
In the morning I write: “I want to make music that’s more beautiful than anything in the world.”
In the evening it’s been done. Cause I had missed the point. And have often been missing the point.
I’ve been through so much in the past two years. I want to make music that’s more beautiful than anything in the world.

Man, I go through headphones like subway sandwiches. I need to find a headphones sponsorship for life. Or a headphone punch card.
Cracked myself up happily this morning when considering the title, “A Game of Drones” for my album.

Pacific UV’s EP, which I contributed a remix to, is out and it’s free. It’s really good, too.

Sending tumblr a postcard explaining why I love this place.
The out of control, accidental population of Caribbean Coquí frogs here have won my heart and my field recorder over. I hacked a third of my album off and couldn’t feel happier, lighter, and more efficient and direct than I’ve been in a long time.
Headed to Hawaii in the morning. Excited to take a field mic. Probably should be more excited to live a little.
I’ll be taking with me on the plane the first start to finish version of my album. Even though I never, ever want to hear it again.
This time tomorrow it’s a luau.

L’Avventura is one of my favorite movies visually, ever. I hadn’t seen it in awhile and discovered it is one of the 6 or so DVDs I own and recently unearthed from some box.
Since I don’t have a lot of extra time at the moment, I’ve been mixing with it on. It’s lack of any real soundtrack lends itself perfect to this sort of nerdity. If you haven’t seen any of Antonioni’s beautiful films, they are all highly recommended, and wonderful for summertime.
“I am personally very reluctant to use music in my films,” Antonioni said in 1961, “for the simple reason that I prefer to work in a dry manner, to say things with the least means possible.”
